A Mess

Img_0045

That's the current state of our living room, it's mess! We're packing for our move to Boston. We're moving from a house with 1800 square feet, plus a basement- to a 600 square foot apartment. That means that we're not taking much with us.

We've spent the last 2 weeks just going through things to throw away or give away- and then making a decision to take with us or keep here.

We're not taking much furniture- bed, dresser, side table, couch, small kitchen table with 2 chairs- that's it! The rest will be boxes!

The picture is of half of the living room that is the "take with us" pile.

My new LG stove

Img_0043

My new LG oven/stove was delivered by Best Buy today. It's beau-de-ful!

It's my first major appliance purchase, besides a washer/drawer- which nobody sees.

I have needed to get a new stove for probably 2 years. I looked this summer, but put off buying one. This LG was the one I was going to get before.

I ended up burning cookies on Christmas Eve Eve- and I said that is enough- I need a new oven! Even if I'm only going to be able to use it a little before going to Cambridge. We need it and was a safety hazard because it sometimes got hotter than it was set to.

I did bake some cookies tonight and learned about some of the features- although I researched for hours and read reviews. I've already found things that I didn't know it could do.

I definitely want to do a little bit more baking this weekend. I'm nervous that I'm going to scratch the top though!

Taking time for breakfast

Img_0042

We hardly ever go out for breakfast, but we did the Monday after Christmas.

We went to one of our local coffee shops called Java Brewing Co. We were both off work and made plans to go and we had a great time. We got oatmeal with cranberries and lattes. Both were delicious!

We made it a point to do something special and we both enjoyed it. I'm going to do more things like this! It's small and not that expensive, but it is meaningful and 3 weeks later, I am still thinking about it!

New Year

Img_0041

It's a day late, but Happy New Year!!

We celebrated by going to bd's Mongolian Grill. We were a little desperate because we waited too late to go out withOUT reservations. It was between that place and an Indian restaurant.

Have you eaten at bd's Mongolian Grill before? It's a little strange to get a bowl to fill it up with RAW meat! I got mostly chicken and broccoli and decided on the pad Thai sauce. It was pretty good and we had enough for left overs. That's a tip- don't keep eating just to clean your plate. I was full enough, but I wasn't stuffed- so I stopped! And I saved enough room for dessert.

I had just gotten an email coupon from Cold Stone for a free ice cream- so we headed over there. The guy behind the counter reacted when he saw I had a coupon. He said he had gotten like 40 of them today. He didn't know about it and that they emailed the entire list. He was nice about it, but was clueless of "corporate" stuff.

After ice cream, we stopped at our local Heine Brothers coffee shop for lattes and cafe au laits. We were home by 9, but stayed up until about 2am.

We cracked open some champagne, but I added some fruit juice to it!

A great evening! And an end to 2010. And a start to 2011. Cheers!

Almost New Year's Eve

Img_0040

It's almost New Year's Eve. I'm on the way home from work- last work day of 2010.

Just realized that it's been 2 weeks since the last post. Christmas was great- seeing family. We took lots of pictures and I need to work on all of them. My brother-in-law graduated from college and got engaged and I also have some exciting news- and no, I'm no pregnant. That's what everything thinks when I start to tell them.

Names for pets

Img_0039

For those of you that have pets (I can't imagine not having one), do you pick 'normal' names for them or more 'animal/pet' like names? We've always gone for unique names.

This is Miffy. She's precious to me. We've had her 4.5 years. She really scared us about 6 weeks ago and I have been hesitant to post anything about it- but she had kidney problems- maybe I should say 'has' kidneys problems because I think she'll always have it and we'll have to be more careful to monitor it.

Basically, she stopped eating- slowly. We thought it was because of our hectic travel schedule mid-late October. I spent several evenings on the kitchen floor trying to get her to eat. anything.

My husband's grandmother also passed away during that time and so we couldn't get her to the vet. But when we did, her blood levels were way off.

I didn't go to the vet- I can't stand to go there. But my husband called and said they gave her fluids- and that it wasn't good news and that I should "prepare myself". I was at work, getting ready to go to lunch for my bosses birthday.

That weekend was hard. He took her in on Saturday for more fluids and learned how to give her fluids via an IV. So for the last few weeks, we have spent every other morning giving her fluids. She had a few good days (eating wise) and then she would not for a day- and back and forth.

She's been back for 3 more blood tests and each one has gotten better- but not totally normal. But the last week, she has done great. The bad thing is that starting tomorrow, for 3 days, neither of us will be home- so I'm a little worried how she'll do while we're gone.

She is on the pillow next to me, as I get ready to go to sleep- and I just wanted to take a picture of her and then I felt like I was ready to share her recent struggles.

So as a lesson learned, monitor your pet's diet carefully and take them to the vet if you think something's up!

Paper Rosettes

P40

I made some paper rosettes! I am super excited at how they turned out- because last night, when I started- I STRUGGLED!

I brought the Martha Stewart scoring board at Archivers and some red and green cardsock. I'll post some detailed instructions later, but I wanted to post the outcome tonight. I bought some cute toppers for them at Michaels.

I'm going to use these for Christmas presents and decorations!

Great Value Ice Cream

P35

We're going to see the new Harry Potter Movie, but we had an hour to 'waste' before it started. We were at Walmart looking at scrapbook stuff and then I realized that we should probably have a snack before the movies.

We went down a few rows and then I thought ice cream. Walmart's brand Great Value had little (6 oz.) individual containers- so we both got 1. We also needed some spoons and I needed some for my desk at work too, so we got a box.

We're sitting in the Starbucks parking lot, so I have my ice cream and Starbucks- it couldn't get much better.

Winning Toys

Another test of posting from my phone, this time from the Posterous app.

http://www.momsbyheart.net/2010/11/award-winning-toys-ages-3-4.html

These are award winning toys for kids 3-4. While in high school and most of college, I worked at Learning Express, an educational toy store. I loved it and the toys.

Ones featured in the post that caught my eye were the Leap Frog Tag Jr, Silly Socks game, and the eeBoo Friends Say Hello puzzle.

I need to work on my Christmas shopping list and see if I have any kids this age to buy for! I love fun AND educational games!

I love my dentist

Img_0038

Just got back from the dentist and the report was all good. I have been going to Dr. Hobbs office for 4 years now.

I have been lucky that I have never had any cavities! I got a fluoride treat when I was young and I think it really helped.

Every 6 months I go and I wonder if they will find something.

I also get a goodie bag with toothpaste, a toothbrush and floss. I love it because I never have to buy toothbrushes!

I like Betty the receptionist too! She calls 2 weeks before and the day before, as a reminder. The hygienist is awesome too! She is the one that you are with the longest and she always remembers where our conversion left off- either about my school or our travels.

Eating breakfast before going to have LASIK- the nerves are kicking in!
